The Red Head STRATOS DP has a cooling capacity 7.8% greater than the original one, this is due to the 14% increase of the finned part for heat dissipation.
This new project has reduced the temperature in the head to 1.5 ° less than with the use of Super gasoline; this results in the total removal of the temperature increase due to the unleaded gasoline and a better performance also with the old Super petrol. This product is a revolution in the engine cooling system.
On this head, the horizontal 4-fins pass to 5-fins. In the center part of the cup, highest heat, the fins have a 4.6 mm thickness, while 0.5 mm thickness in the upper extreme point; in both sides the fins have a 6 mm base and end with 0.8 mm. They are so thin to allow a quick heat ejection.
The idea was to have rather 0-thick fins, but during testing, the fins were soundproofing and collapsing (breakage); for this reason, the minimum thickness was set at 0.5 mm.
In case the fin base has the same thickness as the extreme point one, the heat loss happens by inertia and the head can reach such high temperatures that the material becomes fragile till explosion (cases were already experiences with Lambretta).
The Red head STRATOS DP is equipped with 4 brass inserts stabilizers. The use of these inserts allows a better seal of the head as they have a 19 mk expansion coefficient compared to the aluminum inserts with a 23 mk dilation; this means that the aluminum pushes to dilate while the brass remains stable and the cylinder head is automatically “self-tightening.”
The installation of 4 brass cylinders by Stratos is recommended (sold separately).
