Cylinder shimming base gasket: when to use it
The cylinder base shimming gasket is used when:
- longer connecting rods are used
- it is necessary to modify the engine phases by raising them.
1. Longer connecting rods
The base gasket with different thicknesses is necessary when increasing the length of the connecting rod (e.g. 110mm) and maintaining the piston with standard compression of 39.00 mm.
With a 110mm connecting rod and a 39.00mm compression piston, a 3.00mm gasket will be required in order to make up for the 3mm extra connecting rod length.
All other variations of basic shimming are necessary to regulate the important squish height in the cylinder head which determines a significant increase in engine performance.
2. Engine phases
The shimming of the cylinder in base is also used for the variation of the phases of the motor.
Therefore, based on the heights that are chosen, it will be possible to increase or decrease the intake, transfer and exhaust timing.
Cylinder base gasket is made of aluminum and available for:
- small crankcase (125,150,175 cc) with thicknesses of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm.
- carter grande (200 cc) con spessori da 1mm, 2mm e 3mm.
